By trade and training, I nerd about the man-made systems that shape and structure our lives as social beings. Or, more plainly: I work in the public policy sector, focusing on development, gender, and the digital divide. Or at least, I try to.

The other side of me is also a nerd — about how light dances and falls on a wall, the way it catches someone mid-laugh, or holds onto a moment that just happened, exactly like that. That's what photography is to me: a storytelling tool for moments that can't quite be explained in words, at least not at first. It's also the one hobby I've never built a system around. Full disclosure: this is also why I have several hundred unedited photos sitting in my Lightroom. And maybe why this website took so long to build. But okay, there's that.

by putorisan. started as a hashtag on my personal Instagram — a way to tag the photos I took, then slowly grew into this: a visual journal/portfolio collection of ten years (and counting!) of photographs. It’s a place where careful composition meets unfiltered musings, where polished meets playful. It captures both versions of me: the burst-of-ideas creative and the systems-loving strategist. Structured chaos at its finest.

Having been born and raised in Jakarta, and having spent time living in Osaka and Singapore, my photography is also quietly shaped by the culture and identity of these places. Currently based in Singapore.
